Heather's Hope Donation Fund & Events

With the holidays just around the corner, I wanted to again thank all of the patients who reached out to support my family after our house fire. We’ve been back in our new rebuilt home for seven weeks now, our tree is up, and we are settling in.  With the help of Heather’s Hope we were able to purchase a sectional sofa for our family room.  All of your gift cards helped to clothe us and provide bedding and towels for the house.  I am so thankful and touched by the kindness that was extended to my family between the successful fundraisers (Thank you High Tops, Mount Airy Inn, Green Turtle and Rafeal’s), Heather’s Hope, and gift certificates.  Within days of the fire there were tons of clothing and house wares dropped off to the office. What a tremendous out pour of love and selflessness. It was the true meaning of this holiday season well after it had passed. So with that said I’d like to leave you with a little checklist of some simple precautions for this time of year and always………Much Love & Gratitude, Heather Speert

 

These are my suggestions after going through this ordeal.

1. Keep all Jewelry and cash if in the house in a fire proof box.  We did find our in the ruble.  They do work, unfortunately only passport and bonds were in mine.
2. Be sure to reassess your content once a year.  Rule of thumb $10,000 per room.
3. Have a fire extinguisher on each level of house.
4. Let nearby friends/neighbors know how many animals are in your home.
5. If you live in a remote area, check with your local fire department to ensure that you are on their map. (I was told that they had trouble finding our house)
