Restylane®, Perlane ®, and Juvéderm™

Some of the newest and most exciting injectable wrinkle treatments for Baltimore, Maryland residents are Restylane®, Perlane®, and Juvéderm™ (in three formulas). All are based on non-animal, stabilized hyaluronic acid, a substance occurs naturally in our bodies. They do not require testing prior to treatment and the products are eventually absorbed harmlessly by the human body.

Restylane®, Perlane®, and Juvéderm™ are used to fill nasolabial folds, those lines called "parentheses" that run from your nose to your mouth. They can also be used to fill small wrinkles around the lips and to plump the lips themselves. Newer uses for the hyaluronic acid-based fillers include filling hollows under the eyes and lifting the eyebrows to create a more attractive arch. And the injectables are also being used very successfully to contour the cheeks, nose, chin and jaw line without surgery.

The products work by adding immediate volume in the skin or deep under the skin, smoothing wrinkles from underneath. They also attract and bind to moisture molecules under the skin's surface for a hydrating effect. All are FDA-approved. Juvéderm™ has additional FDA clearance for use with all skin types and colors, making it an ideal choice for many African-American and Hispanic patients. Radiesse®

Radiesse® is also a facial filler, but its active ingredient is a calcium-based substance called hydroxylapatite (often spelled hydroxyapatite). The calcium "microspheres" are suspended in a smooth gel that can be injected with very little discomfort. Dr. Kane and his staff use Radiesse® most often to augment the bridge of the nose and jaw line for non-surgical cosmetic improvement and for chin and cheek augmentation too.

One of the major advantages to Radiesse® is the long-lasting results it offers. After treatment, patients can enjoy their new look from one to five years.

Collagen Injections

Collagen is the fibrous protein that gives skin its structure. Unfortunately, collagen beneath the surface of the skin breaks down over time, causing wrinkles, folds, and hollows.

Collagen injections have been used for decades to replenish the skin's volume and help preserve a youthful appearance. It's a safe, non-surgical treatment that can smooth out facial line and wrinkles, even scars. Collagen injections can also help you achieve the plump lips nature didn't give you. The effects of treatment normally last four to six weeks, and injections can be repeated as necessary.

Fat Transfer

For patients who would rather not use BOTOX® Cosmetic or a filler like Restylane®, Baltimore's Center for Cosmetic Surgery & MediSpa offers fat injections using your own tissues. After numbing the donor area, Dr. Kane collects fat cells from one area of your body, usually the buttocks or abdomen, and transfers them to the target site. These injections can be used to fill in wrinkles and lines, create contours in the face, enhance lips, and smooth scars.

Fat injections tend to be long lasting but may not be permanent. They can be repeated as necessary.
